Iron ladies

She to Muslim world - hers was to United kingdom, born in different eras but ruled simultaneously, perfect hairstyles to intellectualism galore - privileged with feminism, vibrant personalities and eloquent communications, genuine with only influence of their fathers in their entire lives - Benazir Bhutto and Margaret Thatcher - the two iron ladies with longest ruling regimes amongst the female prime ministers of the 20th century.

Benazir Bhutto first female prime minister to the Muslim world with two non-consecutive terms (from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996), member of Pakistan People’s party has been a symbol of immense courage and profound bravery beyond the stretches of believability. Ideologically, Benazir Bhutto continues to stay as martyrs never die - emptying her place (21 June 1953 – 27 December 2007).

Drifting back into the ruling eras of Margaret Thatcher, member of Conservative party (U.K), holds a feather in her head --- longest ruling Prime minister of United Kingdom (1979–1990). Invincibly survived in the male chauvinist world is still an iconic figure to the world and a great symbol of passion.

Unputdownable biographies --- series of achievements --- happily married, Denis Thacher and Asif Ali Zardari who stood by their sides, garnered support and drilled in the confidence to continue to bring their inner leaders to the outer world. It says “behind every successful man there is a woman” but behind these successful iron ladies had been their men, husbands, with no shred of doubt.

Dedicated leadership always dictated their thoughts, elected by the majority of votes showed the world new rays of hopes. Benazir becoming prime minister gave a world decisive vision; Pakistan was nourished by development, progress, social and economic uplift. She worked a tad too hard to demolish the prevailing gaps between rich and the poor, decreased the illiteracy rate and made Pakistan competent with rest of the world. On the other hand, Margaret Thatcher with her vision ruled United Kingdom for 11 and half years, her predominant influence strengthen her courage and embedded many political policies. Thatcher promoted low inflation and attained success, did not stop but is also known to have worked on “financial discipline, firm control over public expenditure and tax cuts etc.”

Possessing fundamental ideas and values the famous ideologies --- Bhuttoism and Thatcherism --- socialist revolution and conviction politics respectively are the leaderships to promote changes into the prevalent societies. Widening the visions and squeezing the mind gaps, sorting out the problematic situations and overlooking the differences, devoid of supremacy and injection of human rights truly presents a clear picture of their ideologies.

Meryl Streep played in the movie called “The Iron lady”, a wonderful tribute to the selfless intellectual leader --- a biopic about democratic revolutionary Margaret Thatcher. Her role was no fiction in the movie, highly applauded explains a lot about the life of this real life “iron lady”. As for the complete biopic of Benazir --- remarkably irreplaceable “Iron lady”, is still awaited…

Woman is also said to be God’s complete creation, Benazir Bhutto and Margaret thatcher showed the world the courage, strength and dignity of a woman. Marvelous rules and competent personalities, bearing double of the pains, fighting their political battles and nourishing their child inside their wombs simultaneously is the height of brilliancy, potential and self-confidence. Not missing offices more than 48 hours despite enduring labor pains depicts their dedication galore. World has never seen genuine immortals prior to them and to come across such vibrantly elegant souls again is surely not happening very soon. But the examples and standards they have set on have been imbuing the people around the world greatly. World to forget them and fall reluctant in quoting them is surely impossible.

“The government I led gave ordinary people peace, security, dignity, and opportunity to progress” --- Benazir Bhutto

“I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph.” --- Margaret Thatcher

Yes, no doubt Benazir Bhutto was a genius and a very dynamic leader, and by her last term, she became mature and wiser...but in her reign there was a lot of chaos and corruption...I wish she could use her strengths more in the interest of the country...

Indira Gandhi and Sheikh Hasina have ruled longer than Benazir. The same holds true of Chandrika Kumaratunga and Khalida Zia.
Benazir was a brave woman with a commanding personality like ZAB. She once spoke to the House Journal of the London School of Economics about her three role models: her father ZAB, the Joan of Arc and Indira Gandhi.
I believe she would have left behind a much richer legacy of governance if she had been allowed to administer Pakistan in peace without the army and the establishment breathing down her neck all the time.
