Blogging Battle

I have been using blogger.com platform for sometime now. Despite the year long ban on Blogspot, it has been working fine for me; it was possible to login and publish. Blogs could be viewed through a one of the free proxies available online.

Then this happened; on Jan 27, 2007, I was invited to switch to newer version. I did it only for login (I opted to login with my Google account leaving every thing else intact because over time I have heavily customized my templates). Since then, I was unable to login and access my dashboard. Frustrated; I wrote to my friends, gurus and experts including blogger support. No body could figure out weather this was a blogger new version problem or it is happening due to ban in place.

I have been thinking other alternatives in the meantime. Can Light Within members living abroad post new material on the blog? Should I get my own domain? Should I leave blogging for those who can and do some thing else? One thing is sure that I have to do some thing else.

Edward Gibbon wrote in his book A History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (published in 1776) that Christianity brought ignorance to the West. It made for the decline and fall of Rome by sapping the faith of the people in the official religion. Christians believed in the imminent end of this world, they all put their thoughts in the “next” world.

This other-worldly attitude proved most disastrous to the West, since the Christians, instead of serving the state and the public good, diverted men from useful employments and encouraged them to concentrate on heavenly and private salvation.

Moments of Acceptances and Creativity

Bookmark and Share

Sooner or later, successful writers learn that they cannot go through life expecting to find time to write - you have to make time. This inevitably involves sacrifice, taking time away from the other important things in life: family, friends, jobs and other obligations. Sometimes it also involves self-imposed exile, strange rituals, and other writer’s tricks.

Wee hours of the night – after midnight to before crack of the dawn – are moments of acceptances and creativity. Allah the exalted likes devoted adoration and worship during these hours in particular. These are the moments during which most successful writers have been accomplishing more.

When Satan comes to earth

Bookmark and Share

Satan comes to this world in the guise of a human and goes around places. Fellow human beings – the best of all creations - do not let him have piece anywhere in this world. Satin is so feed up of the deteriorating conditions in the world that he prays, "Oh God, I am unable to live anymore. Let me die.”

This is the central idea of Abbas Khan’s new novel Tu Aur Tu. My recommendation: Buy this book. It is all about what we see in the society today.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Chief Finance and Operating Officer (CFOO) is a corporate officer primarily responsible for managing the financial risks of the corporation. It started in Lahore in May 2011, where Tristan Perry and a few Lahori Bloggers got together, hatched the idea of a first ever bloggers summit in Pakistan. The meeting started chain of events. For us that was first bloggers meet up of International level in Pakistan.
Getting together with amazing and active group of human beings, each one with a cause, that has organically formed over the years from a small number to an enormous and powerful network of bloggers, tweeps, journalists, filmmakers, storytellers and others passionate about activism was wonderful.

My Memories

Bookmark and Share

Human beings - fortunate of all the creatures- are unfortunately plagued with needs. We want material things and comforts of life besides our basic wants like love and social recognition. Sometimes ago, in an effort to improve material well being, my outer adult joined an educational institution to study the behavioral sciences that are at work to shape the very complex society at present time. This brought back memories of student life: students’ culture, fun of the school days, aspirations I used to have when I was very young, prophecies of my teachers and the missed opportunities I (now) think I should have availed. My admission also brought in focus the main stream education system working in our country.

Earlier, I learnt most of what I have known throughout my life during early stages of life from my parents and in the primary school. My teachers in small village primary school taught me reading, writing, counting and other basic skills required to lead a successful life. I have never forgotten the efforts of junior Vernacular Teachers to instill some kind of discipline in me. They also taught me about giving, sharing, enjoying, commitment, helping, smiling, trying and caring in addition to the academics.

Developments in computer technologies, in the past decades, have had their impact on human life in more than one way. But where this increasing interaction between human beings and computers is leading and how is it defining the focus of research in the field are some of the valid fields of study that are likely to make difference in human lives in future.

The emergence of information technology (IT), the availability of the web, and the user friendly designs are rapidly increasing the use of computers. Despite odds like literacy, availability (and reliability) of phone connection and affordability, the use of computers is significantly increasing in Pakistan as well. E-mail, real-time text correspondence and voice exchange are already popular asides from word processing and spread sheets. But in Pakistan, most of the new concepts are still untested, which makes any analysis inconclusive.

Power Station of the Past

Bookmark and Share

Situated on the bank of river Ravi on Okara Faisalabad Road Gogera was once an important and dignified town in the plans of Central Punjab. It is reduced to a shabby and sleepy suburb of Okara today. Town still boasts its importance when it was important British power centre and district headquarters from 1852 to 1865 and the part played by the resilient people of the area during War of Independence in 1857. The stories of the war that was fought around Gogera echo in the pages of history books.

The only historic building -- a British court -- that reminds of the colonial period has been converted into a school. The verandas of the old building with round arches have been clogged to create additional rooms and red thin bricks are covered with coats of whitewash. It was much better if the building could have been conserved in its original shape. That does not seem possible now.
